On August 7, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting on discussing reform effectiveness and new plans in Navoi region.
Navoi region has a major potential in the sphere of subsoil use, industry and agriculture. In the past eight years over 7 thousand projects worth $8 billion were implemented here, 73 thousand jobs were created. The number of entrepreneurs increased from 10 to 30 thousand.
The decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated December 12, 2024 “On additional measures of socio-economic development of Navoi region” further expanded the existing opportunities. In the first six months of the current year the volume of investments reached $643 million, export exceeded $635 million. New production capacities were launched for a total of $550 million, as well as 1140 trade and service facilities.
Nevertheless, many underutilized resources remain. The Head of state emphasized that apart from major industry, the region has vast opportunities for developing pastures and livestock, expanding a range of services.
Thus, 20 percent of all mineral resources and 43 percent of the country’s pastures are concentrated in the region. The presence of large enterprises and developed infrastructure creates demand in related industries as well.
To unlock these opportunities, a reform headquarters has been established in Navoi region. At the meeting, a presentation of new projects developed based on entrepreneurs’ proposals was delivered.
In particular, investors expressed readiness to invest $566 million in the development of eight deposits in Gazgan, Nurata, Khatyrchi, Navbahor and Uchkuduk. Implementation of these projects will increase industrial output by 2,5 trillion soums and exports by $100 million.
For example, Nurata district holds reserves of 750 million cubic meters of granite stone. It was proposed to create an industrial zone on 50 hectares for its processing.
In 10 mahallas of this district, more than 5 thousand women are engaged in embroidery, providing income for their families. Now it is planned to open Embroidery centers in another 28 mahallas.
It is envisaged to provide families in need with solar panels and mobile retail outlets to help lift them out of poverty.
Three million hectares of pastures in the region represent a major reserve for the agricultural sector. For instance, an entrepreneur from Kyzyltepa has introduced sprinkler and drip irrigation on 1 thousand hectares and grows export-oriented crops. He now intends to expand into livestock farming and milk processing.
Overall, a package of additional projects worth $1,6 billion has been developed in the region. Their implementation will provide 10 thousand new jobs, budget revenues of 1 trillion soums and exports worth $238 million.
The President gave instructions to improve the economic efficiency of the projects.
Attention was drawn to the lack of cooperation between large and small enterprises. A task was set to link small entrepreneurs with large manufacturers, introduce a system of guaranteed orders and double the share of small business in the regional economy.
The need was emphasized to assist in providing pastures with water resources, ensuring their efficient use and increasing food production volumes.
The average wage in Navoi region is 1,5 times higher than in other regions, which stimulates both demand and supply in trade and services. In this regard, instructions were given to create modern recreation zones and parks, develop tourism and expand service delivery.
