The Head of State was presented with information on the results of reforms and new plans for the development of Samarkand region.
Samarkand is one of the largest regions in the republic in terms of population size and growth rates. This means a growing need for housing, infrastructure, jobs, education, and healthcare. Over the past eight years, 1,132 apartment buildings have been built in the region, improving the living conditions of 56 thousand families. Preschool education coverage has increased from 21 to 73 percent, and higher education coverage from 10 to 45 percent.
The textile industry, metallurgy, the electrical engineering sector, the production of building materials, and tourism are developing rapidly in the economy. The implementation of large-scale projects, construction, and the creation of high-paying jobs are strengthening the population's confidence in the future.
The poverty level in the region has decreased from 7.5 to 6.9 percent since the beginning of the year. By the end of the year, it is planned to employ 150 thousand people and lift 90 thousand citizens out of poverty.
Over the past eight years, industrial production in the region has grown 1.7 times and exceeded 45 trillion soums. However, 37 percent of this volume is accounted for by the city of Samarkand, and 23 percent by Jambay, Samarkand and Urgut districts. At the same time, industry is underdeveloped in Kushrabad, Payaryk, and Nurabad districts.
On the initiative of the President, a reform headquarters has also been established in Samarkand region. During the presentation, information was provided on new projects developed based on proposals from entrepreneurs.
For example, in Nurabad district, it is proposed to create a special industrial zone covering an area of 115 hectares. It is planned to implement investment projects worth $472 million and create 1,200 jobs.
In Kushrabad district, a Chinese investor plans to invest $40 million in the extraction and processing of granite.
An entrepreneur from Bulungur has set up an in vitro laboratory and started creating a seed potato brand. In the same district, there are plans to build a biopharmaceutical enterprise worth $100 million.
In total, 14 new projects worth $1.2 billion have been formed in the region. Their implementation will create 12 thousand jobs and generate export revenues of $82 million.
The President supported these initiatives and gave instructions to accelerate the implementation of the projects. He emphasized the need to evenly increase the investment attractiveness and export potential of each city and district.
