At a meeting with the media, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif shared their assessments of the talks.
At the outset, the Head of our state highlighted the fruitful results of the meetings, emphasizing that this historic visit opens a new page in the Uzbek-Pakistani strategic partnership.
The President of Uzbekistan highly appreciated the dynamic development of bilateral cooperation in recent years. The volume of trade turnover has exceeded $400 million, 130 joint ventures have been established, trade houses have been opened in Karachi and Tashkent. Air flights between Tashkent and Lahore have been resumed.
The Intergovernmental Commission has been working effectively, and political consultations, a number of business events and an industrial exhibition of Uzbekistan have been fruitful.
- These days, a solid delegation of leading Pakistani companies is staying in our capital. Today we will hold a separate meeting with the business community and discuss joint plans, - said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
It was emphasized that during the talks at the highest level the parties identified new growth points of multifaceted cooperation and agreed to establish the Supreme Council of Strategic Partnership.
In the focus of attention were the issues of drastic increase in the volume and expansion of the nomenclature of mutual trade, strengthening of industrial cooperation, development of transport interconnectivity, support and creation of favorable conditions for business.
The importance of promoting projects in pharmaceuticals, agrarian sector, agricultural machinery, geology and mineral resources, textile, leather and other industries with export of finished products to third country markets.
The leaders agreed to continue close contacts and mutual support within the framework of global and regional structures, including the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and others.
The proximity of positions on the peaceful development of Afghanistan and the diplomatic settlement of the Palestinian issue was confirmed.
At the same time, mutual interest was expressed in expanding cooperation in the field of security, combating terrorism, transnational crime, drug trafficking and other areas.
During the talks, special attention was paid to the development of cultural, humanitarian and tourist exchange. Agreements were reached on the mutual organization of cultural and art festivals, and the increase of tourist flows, including within the framework of the “Umrah Plus” program.
In conclusion it was underlined the Governments of the two countries will develop a comprehensive “roadmap” to ensure timely and quality implementation of the reached agreements and signed documents.
