On June 22, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Martin Chungong, who is in our country to participate in the International Forum of Inter-parliamentary Global Cooperation for the Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.
The issues of further expanding the partnership of our country with this authoritative international organization were considered.
The President has underscored the importance of continuing a constructive dialogue and close interaction in the priority areas such as promoting socio-economic reforms and deepening democratic transformations, protecting human rights and ensuring gender equality, and supporting youth.
It should be noted that in 2017, Uzbekistan resumed its participation in the Union and today, Uzbekistan is fully represented in its executive structures. This year, the national parliament adopted a separate document on strengthening the multifaceted relations with the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
In turn, the Secretary-General Martin Chungong has highlighted the notable progress in the development of parliamentarism in our country. He also highly appreciated and supported the global initiatives of Uzbekistan in this sphere.
An agreement was reached on joint preparation and holding of a number of international events to broadly exchange the advanced foreign experience and unlock the great potential of multilateral cooperation.
