President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with the President of the United States of America Donald Trump at the White House on 16 May.

After the photographing ceremony, Presidents of two nations held a conversation in the Oval Office.

Donald Trump, greeting the President of Uzbekistan on an official visit, noted that Uzbekistan is an important state, a strategic partner for the United States.

The authority of Uzbekistan is growing. It’s an honor for us to meet with you in the White House, the US President said.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev, expressing gratitude for the invitation, stated that the US consistently supports Uzbekistan.

After the presidential elections in Uzbekistan and the US, relations between our countries have risen to a new level. The name of the Joint Statement adopted today "Uzbekistan and the United States of America: the beginning of a new era of strategic partnership" speaks for itself, testifies to our aspirations aimed at a long-term perspective, the President of Uzbekistan said.

This summit is significant because it takes place in a new political environment. Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Donald Trump almost simultaneously assumed the post of President, then relations between the countries were developing step by step.

Uzbekistan and the US exchanged visits of delegations of various levels. The heads of state in Riyadh met in May 2017 and in New York in September 2017. During a telephone conversation in December, Donald Trump invited Shavkat Mirziyoyev to pay an official visit to the United States.
