As part of the events of the Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Development Bank, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a delegation from the Republic of Korea led by Deputy Prime Minister,Minister of Economy and Finance Koo Yun-cheol.
During the meeting, the parties discussed prospects for further strengthening the Uzbek-Korean special strategic partnership and expanding multifaceted cooperation.
The distinguished guest conveyed sincere greetings and best wishes from the President of the Republic of Korea Lee Jae-Myung, to the President of Uzbekistan. The outcomes of the leaders’ previous meeting in New York were noted with satisfaction.
Bilateral ties, based on deep historical bonds of friendship, shared mentalities, traditions, and values, continue to develop steadily.
The President of Uzbekistan placed particular focus on expanding trade, economic, and investment cooperation with South Korea.
Indicators of mutual trade and investment are steadily growing. Since the beginning of the year, trade turnover has increased by 12 percent. Around 1,000 joint ventures are currently operating in Uzbekistan, and the total volume of Korean investment has exceeded $8 billion. The establishment of a special industrial zone for Korean companies is under consideration.
The long-standing and fruitful cooperation with the Eximbank of Korea and its funds, with a cumulative project portfolio exceeding $2 billion, was highly praised.
The construction of a multidisciplinary clinic, a chemical center, and a pharmaceutical park is underway. Today, the first Hyundai Rotem train began service on the Tashkent-Khiva route.
The President of Uzbekistan emphasized the importance of preparing a portfolio of new investment projects in priority areas and intensifying interregional exchanges. Hope was also expressed for the Korean side’s support in advancing the digitalization of public financial management.
The importance of preparations for upcoming high-level events was noted, including the Central Asia-Korea Summit to be held in Seoul this autumn.
