President visits Imam Bukhari Mausoleum

03.05.2026

On May 3, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrived in Samarkand.

In keeping with established tradition, the program began with a visit to the Imam Bukhari Complex. At the mausoleum of the eminent hadith scholar, verses from the Qur’an and dua were recited.

At the initiative of the Head of State, this sacred pilgrimage site was rebuilt in line with the high standing and profound legacy of Imam Bukhari in the Islamic world. All necessary amenities have been created for visitors. This year, on the eve of the Ramadan Hayit holiday, the complex reopened to pilgrims. More than 60,000 citizens and international visitors performed the Eid prayer at this revered site.

As a result of large-scale construction work, the capacity of the Imam Bukhari Complex has increased from 12,000 to 65,000 visitors per day.

According to available data, in the first month following its reopening, the complex welcomed more than one million local and international visitors.

The President instructed that additional measures be taken to create even more comfortable conditions for visitors to the complex, expand opportunities for religious observances, and deepen understanding of the heritage of the great ancestor, the eminent muhaddith.

The importance of expanding parking capacity for visitors arriving by car, further improving pedestrian areas for pilgrims, and creating a natural and comfortable environment for rest was also emphasized. It was noted that progress in this area should be regularly assessed, with conditions for pilgrims reviewed every six months to identify additional measures. It was also stressed that imam-khatibs from across the country should be invited to the complex for professional development.

The Head of State noted the importance of systematic work to improve the culture of pilgrimage, enhance sacred sites and cemeteries, and create dignified conditions for visitors. It was emphasized that strengthening a respectful attitude toward the memory of the deceased has significant spiritual and educational value, helping the younger generation develop a sense of identity and the continuity of national values.
