President of Uzbekistan presents initiatives on strengthening global social equity

04.11.2025

On November 4, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev took part in the second World Summit on Social Development, held in Doha.

The forum was also attended by United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the UN General Assembly Annelena Berbock, President of the UN Economic and Social Council Lok Bahadur Thapa, as well as heads of state and government, representatives of international and regional organizations.

At the beginning of his speech, the President of our country expressed his gratitude to the organizers of the forum for the high level of its preparation and emphasized that holding the summit, which is an important platform for global social development, in the city of Doha has great symbolic significance.

The Head of State noted that in recent years Qatar has become a global center of social inclusion and dynamic progress, and sincerely congratulated the people of this country on their achievements.

The President emphasized that today the international community and national governments are making joint efforts to ensure social well-being and improve the standard of living of the population. Uzbekistan, in turn, consistently supports all international cooperation formats and initiatives aimed at achieving sustainable development.

In recent years, New Uzbekistan has been engaged in the large-scale construction of a social state, in which the principle of “In the name of human honor and dignity” is affirmed, social justice is ensured, and the people in need are effectively protected.

- In recent years, we have managed to reduce poverty from 35 percent to 6.6 percent. We will continue reforms in this direction, - noted the President.

The Head of State put forward a number of proposals and initiatives aimed at strengthening global social justice and sustainable development.

The importance of taking international cooperation in the fight against poverty to a new level was emphasized.

- We believe that the time has come to create a new financial architecture for combating poverty that will attract resources to social programs in developing countries, - stated the President.

In this regard, it was proposed to establish a Global Social Justice Fund, which will provide practical support in reducing poverty and social inequality.

The Head of State stressed the importance of introducing modern mechanisms for effectively addressing employment issues.

It was noted that the rapid development of high technology and artificial intelligence is leading to the loss of millions of jobs around the world. In these conditions, active interaction between the state, business, and society to support workers and strengthen the principles of social partnership is of particular importance.

The President expressed hope for support for the initiative to develop a “Global Initiative on Social Responsibility and Decent Work.”

It was emphasized that expanding educational opportunities for all is one of the most effective ways to solve social problems.

According to experts, the annual economic damage from illiteracy amounts to $1,4 trillion.

According to the President, this makes it difficult for young people to find their place in society and in the labor market, and also exacerbates social inequality.

The Head of State assured that Uzbekistan fully supports the decisions taken at the first meeting of the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty, which took place the day before.

He proposed holding one of the Alliance's future summits in Uzbekistan, with education as the main topic on the agenda.

Special attention was paid to the need for systematic protection of migrant workers and their families.

Uzbekistan is ready to hold an international forum on the social and legal protection of migrants and their families in Tashkent, together with the International Labor Organization and the International Organization for Migration, and to adopt a global program in this area.

The President noted that the impact of climate change on social life is becoming increasingly apparent. Extreme weather events, desertification, and biodiversity loss primarily affect vulnerable segments of the population, such as farmers, seasonal workers, and residents of environmentally disadvantaged regions.

He stressed the need to take comprehensive measures to integrate the fight against climate change with employment programs.

The Head of our state announced that Uzbekistan intends to launch a new model of socio-economic development in the Aral Sea region, declared by the UN as a territory of environmental innovation and technology, and expressed his readiness to share this experience with the international community.

Confidence was expressed that the decisions taken at the summit will instill faith and hope in millions of people around the world and make a significant contribution to ensuring stability and prosperity.

- Our main duty is to restore social harmony on the path of international development and create a decent standard of living for every person, - said the Head of State.

In conclusion, the President of Uzbekistan confirmed his full support for the Doha Political Declaration adopted at the summit and his readiness to ensure the implementation of all its principles in practice.
