In the framework of the working visit to New York City a meeting was held between the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and World Bank Group president Ajay Banga.
In the beginning of the meeting the leader of our country congratulated Ajay Banga with the successful reforms on transforming Bank’s activities aimed at supporting economic growth of developing countries.
In turn, the head of the World Bank gave a high assessment to the results of the ongoing major transformations in our country on the creation of New Uzbekistan.
Topical issues of further expanding strategic partnership with the World Bank Group have been reviewed.
The high level of interaction with this global financial institute achieved in the past years, primarily in supporting and promoting priority programs and projects in the framework of socio-economic reforms, has been noted with satisfaction.
Our country is one of the Bank's largest partners in Europe and Central Asia. The portfolio of joint projects has exceeded $14 billion. A regional office of the World Bank has been opened in Tashkent. The results of the recent III International Forum “From Poverty to Prosperity” in Namangan have been highly appreciated.
The Head of our state noted the importance of focusing the current Partnership program on ensuring sustainable growth and the accelerated, high-quality and effective implementation of projects.
Such areas were identified as priorities, including poverty reduction, job creation for women and youth, comprehensive regional development based on the new “Model Mahalla” model, rural infrastructure development, expansion of support for private sector projects, expert assistance in the privatization of state assets, implementation of the strategy for decarbonization of the economy and transforming the financial sector.
The importance of the Bank's participation in promoting strategic infrastructure projects in the Central Asian region was emphasized.
