On June 17, negotiations were held between President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping.
Topical issues of bilateral and regional agenda were reviewed.
The Heads of state mentioned with deep satisfaction that the Uzbek-Chinese relations of friendship and all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership have reached an unprecedented high level in the recent years.
Agreements reached during the state visit of the President of Uzbekistan to China in January 2024 are being systematically fulfilled.
There has been a marked intensification of contacts and exchanges at all levels.
The Strategic dialogue of foreign ministers has been launched. In early June this year, the second Forum of Regions was successfully held in Samarkand.
Trade-economic and financial-investment interaction is developing dynamically. In 2024, trade turnover reached $14 billion. The portfolio of investment projects exceeds $60 billion.
Joint technology parks and special industrial zones are successfully operating in the regions of our country, and the production of BYD electric cars is expanding.
Promising projects in the “green” energy, oil and gas sector, chemistry, pharmaceuticals, metallurgy, mining, textile, food and construction industries, as well as in logistics, “smart” agriculture, artificial intelligence and digitalization are under development.
Mutually beneficial cooperation with leading financial institutions of the People's Republic of China is underway. Plans have been made with the Silk Road Fund to expand the investment platform. With the participation of China Eximbank, the construction of the Olympic City in the capital is being finalized. A regional branch of this bank was opened in Tashkent.
Special attention was paid to the issues of further deepening cooperation in the fight against poverty.
The leaders also noted the importance of accelerating the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan strategic railroad.
The interest in developing exchanges in education, science, tourism and culture, personnel training and Chinese language studies was emphasized.
A branch of the Northwest Agricultural and Forestry University of China is already functioning in Uzbekistan, and an International Mathematical Center has been established on the basis of Urgench University jointly with Peking University.
Last year, the Confucius Institute celebrated its 20th anniversary, and the Chinese system of professional education “Lu Ban Workshop” is being introduced.
Next year it is planned to organize cross weeks of culture and art in both countries.
During the meeting, views on the international agenda were also exchanged. The importance of maintaining coordination and mutual support within the UN, the SCO, the “Central Asia-China” format and other multilateral platforms was emphasized.
In conclusion of the talks in the presence of the leaders of Uzbekistan and China, it was announced that a Protocol on the completion of bilateral negotiations on Uzbekistan's accession to the WTO was signed.
