On April 4 in the framework of Samarkand Climate Forum President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the UN Under-Secretary-General, executive secretary of the Economic Commission for Europe Tatiana Molcean.
At the beginning of the conversation, the distinguished guest conveyed the sincere greetings and warm wishes of the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres to the President of Uzbekistan.
The Head of State particularly highlighted the key role of the Commission in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030, as well as its expert assistance in areas such as transportation, innovation, textiles, energy, ecology, gender equality, and the process of Uzbekistan's accession to the WTO.
The aspects of implementing regional and country-specific projects were discussed, along with the practical promotion of initiatives put forward by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan at the first summit of the UN Special Program for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA) in Baku in November 2023.
The adoption upon the Uzbek side's proposal of the Concept for the Development of SPECA until 2030, the signing of a "road map" with the EEC on simplifying trade procedures, and the steady implementation of a series of measures on digitization and document exchange within the framework of the Trans-Caspian corridor were noted with satisfaction.
Earlier this year, with the Commission's assistance, Uzbekistan joined the Aarhus Convention on access to reliable information regarding environmental conditions.
Currently, work is underway on joining the Air Convention and the Convention on Transboundary Effects of Industrial Accidents.
The importance of the soonest launch of the SPECA Program's Target Fund was emphasized.
