Information on the works in atomic energy presented

10.02.2025

On February 10, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting on current work in the field of nuclear energy and priority tasks for the future.

All sources of energy are being utilized in our country to meet the growing needs of the population and sectors of the economy. In addition to traditional generation capacities, about 4 gigawatts of alternative energy capacities have been put into operation in recent years, allowing to increase the share of “green” energy up to 16 percent.

An additional 25 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity is planned over the next five years. This will bring green energy production to 64 billion kilowatt-hours. Overall, the goal is to increase the share of green energy in the country's generation to more than 50 percent by 2030.

Advances in digital technology, electric vehicles, electronics, artificial intelligence, mining and other industries are dramatically increasing the demand for energy. Many nations are now looking for ways to transition to new types of energy. Traditional fossil energy sources are gradually giving way to renewable sources. Today, alternative energy already accounts for 42 percent of total global generation.

Nuclear power is optimal for the creation of long-term energy capacities. Today, 417 nuclear reactors with a total capacity of 375 gigawatts are operating in the world. New nuclear power plants are being built, and many countries have included nuclear power in their development strategies.

Our country, which has its own uranium reserves, is also planning to create a long-term energy base. In particular, a project has been developed to build low-power reactors. On December 5, 2024, an international conference on the use of atomic energy was held in Samarkand.

At the meeting, responsible persons presented information on the ongoing work on the development of nuclear energy.

The Head of State instructed on training specialists for the future plant and the industry as a whole, ensuring safety at the level of requirements of the International Atomic Energy Agency. It was noted that the introduction of such technologies will increase the competitiveness of the economy and create a favorable base for long-term growth.
