As part of the program of the official visit to the city of Kuala Lumpur, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim participated in a joint business forum.
The event was attended by over 200 executives and representatives of leading companies, investment and banking and financial institutions of the two countries. Malaysian business was represented by such companies as Petronas, MMC Corporation, DRB-Hicom, Gemilang Coachwork, Proton, Gentari, Five Petroleum, YTL Corporation, Sunview Group, KPJ Healthcare, MK Tron, Mimos, Sparco Engineering, Tradewinds Group, Kapital DX, Gamuda, Westports, Khazanah, EXIM Bank of Malaysia and many others.
In his speech, the President emphasized that during the fruitful talks at the highest level held today, an agreement was reached to launch a two-year period of innovative development of Uzbek-Malaysian partnership, and priority areas of practical cooperation were identified.
With special satisfaction, the establishment of the Intergovernmental Commission and the Business Council last year, as well as organization of a number of major events with the participation of businesses of the two countries were noted.
Despite the geographical remoteness, opportunities in the field of transportation and logistics are expanding. Direct flights between the capitals are performed almost daily.
During the talks, the existing reserves were thoroughly analyzed and new points of growth of the multifaceted partnership were identified.
Agreements were reached on multiplying the volume of trade turnover, developing an Agreement on Preferential Trade, holding mutual exhibitions and fairs. A solid portfolio of joint projects has been formed, and an Industrial Cooperation Program has been developed.

Malaysia is an important innovative and technological partner of Uzbekistan. In this context, the Head of our state outlined a number of priority areas for further development of Uzbek-Malaysian business cooperation.
Above all, it is the expansion of long-term cooperation in electronics and semiconductor industry. Opportunities to implement projects in the sphere of artificial intelligence, digital technologies and creation of data centers have been noted.
The gas chemical and chemical industries are important areas of cooperation. Work is already underway to prepare strategic projects for the production of polymers, “green” hydrogen and ammonia.
The rapid development of the construction industry creates a high demand for innovative and environmentally friendly construction materials. The President of Uzbekistan has invited Malaysian companies to actively participate in creating modern production facilities and large-scale construction works in the regions of our country.
Prospects for mutually beneficial cooperation in the field of healthcare were noted. It concerns the construction of modern clinics, production of innovative pharmaceuticals based on the best practices of Malaysia.
It was pointed out that there are great opportunities in the field of food security. In this context, interest was expressed in implementing joint projects on the introduction of technologies of “smart” agriculture, production of organic products and application of “halal” standards.
The Head of our state also invited leading Malaysian companies and banks to actively participate in the privatization of state assets in telecommunications, energy, banking and finance and other sectors of Uzbekistan.
In addition, a great potential for cooperation in such areas as geology, education, transportation and pilgrimage tourism was noted.
The President welcomed the great interest of Malaysian entrepreneurs in implementing joint investment projects, their readiness to share technologies and knowledge.
In this context, the creation of a special economic zone in Tashkent region under the management of a Malaysian company was announced.
In conclusion, the President suggested to hold the next joint business forum in Uzbekistan in the fall of this year.
