On September 5, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Qu Dongyu.
The Head of a respected sectoral structure of the United Nations system is in Tashkent for the International Forum on Landlocked Developing Countries on Food Security and the Sustainable Development Goals.
At the beginning of the meeting, the UN High Representative expressed deep gratitude to the Head of our state for supporting the successful holding of the forum, which is attended by representative delegations from more than 30 countries.
The discussion addressed the issues of further expansion of the strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and FAO in the field of effective response to contemporary challenges and threats.
The fruitful results of practical cooperation achieved in recent years were noted with satisfaction. The quality of the country's program of cooperation for 2025 has doubled. There are 34 projects in the active phase of implementation. In the last year, 7 new projects, including in the fields of agriculture, school feeding, veterinary science, agrochemistry and other fields were launched.
The importance of preparing and adopting a new five-year partnership program was stressed.
Special attention was given to promising joint projects and activities in the field of digitization of agro-industrial complex, exchange of best knowledge and experience, attracting innovations and investments in increasing land fertility, cultivation and processing of organic agricultural products, modernization of irrigation systems, the establishment of modern clusters and logistics centers, carrying out research work.
An exchange of views was also held on the global and regional food security situation.
