On July 9, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the delegation of Japan headed by the Chairman of the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) Tadashi Maeda.
The issues of expanding mutually beneficial cooperation with this leading financial institution and promoting cooperative projects with Japanese companies were considered.
It was noted with deep satisfaction that a high-level visit to Japan in December 2019 took bilateral relations to a qualitatively new level, giving practical content.
The volume of mutual trade and direct Japanese investments in the economy of Uzbekistan is growing, new joint ventures are being created.
The important role of JBIC in the implementation of priority investment projects in our country was noted. Today, the portfolio of joint projects has exceeded US $3,7 billion in areas such as petrochemicals, textiles, energy and infrastructure modernization.
The activity of the Sojitz corporation in Uzbekistan, which is involved in a number of major projects in the oil and gas sector, was highly appreciated. A representative office of the company was opened in Tashkent yesterday.
The Head of our state noted the importance of early preparation and implementation of new cooperative projects with the participation of Japanese companies in the field of “green” energy, geology, infrastructure modernization, public utilities and health.
An agreement was reached on the adoption of a three-year Cooperation Programme with the Japan Bank for International Cooperation, as well as a “road map” with the Sojitz Corporation on the implementation of promising projects in high-tech sectors of Uzbekistan’s economy.
