President Shavkat Mirziyoyev was briefed on the presentation on measures to further develop the jewelry industry, support the production and sale of jewelry and increase the export of finished products.
There is a huge potential to increase the volume of production and export of jewelry in our country.
As the Head of State noted, only 6 percent of the country’s gold is processed and its exports amount to only US $78 million, so it is important to create jewelry zones with special conditions for entrepreneurs, to reconsider the provision of raw materials to the industry, training of professionals, production chain and sales system.
The Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry have drawn up proposals in this regard.
In particular, it is planned to improve the activities of the association “O’zbekzargarsanoati”, expand its powers and reorganize the management system.
In order to support manufacturers of the industry, it was proposed the benefits provided for the members of the “Hunarmand” Association to apply to individual entrepreneurs - manufacturers of jewelry as well, which are members of the Association “O’zbekzargarsanoati”.
The possibility is being considered to establish, for the period up to October 1, 2026, a zero customs duty and value-added tax on equipment, packaging and marking materials not produced in Uzbekistan and used in the jewelry industry.
The issues of creation of special jewelry centers, including production, exhibition and trading sites were considered. Information was provided on the placement of pilot projects in Tashkent and Namangan regions.
The issue of increasing exports of jewelry was discussed. It was proposed to set a zero customs duty rate for export of jewelry manufactured in our country to the United States of America under the “GSP” system.
The Head of State instructed to finalize the measures presented and to develop a program for the development of domestic production of jewelry for the period up to 2027.
