The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim held talks with the participation of members of the official delegations of the two countries.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Head of Malaysia conveyed to the Leader of our country the warm greetings and best wishes from the King of Malaysia Sultan Ibrahim, and expressed his sincere gratitude for the warm reception accorded to the Malaysian delegation.
During the meeting, issues of further development of Uzbek-Malaysian friendship and multifaceted partnership relations were discussed.
The President of Uzbekistan stressed that this high-level visit, the first in 16 years, opens a new era in the history of bilateral relations.
“Malaysia is a dynamic country with great potential, not only in the Southeast Asian region, but also in the world. Our main goal is to bring practical cooperation with your country to a qualitatively new level,” said the Uzbek President.
The importance of further strengthening political dialogue and inter-parliamentary relations, continuing mutual support within the framework of international organizations, implementing humanitarian and educational programs, and intensifying tourist and cultural exchanges was noted.
Special attention was paid to the issues of practical cooperation in the fields of trade, economy and investment.
Over the past year, the volume of trade has more than doubled, the number of joint ventures has increased, and the frequency of flights between Tashkent and Kuala Lumpur has increased.
The importance of ensuring further growth of volumes and achieving a balance of indicators of mutual trade and implementation of large joint projects was noted.
Confidence was expressed that the results of the Uzbek-Malaysian Business Forum within the framework of the business program of the visit will serve to expand investment partnership, and cooperation of leading companies in the fields of innovation, industry, green energy, petrochemistry, electrical engineering and electronics, pharmaceuticals and other industries.
In order to support these efforts, readiness was expressed to establish an Uzbek-Malay industrial zone in our country.
The issues of cooperation in the field of agriculture, including the introduction of water-saving technologies, the cultivation and processing of fruit and vegetable products, and certification according to “Halal” standards, were considered.
Issues of expanding interaction in the field of information technologies, poverty reduction and transport interconnectivity were discussed.
In order to systematically expand the trade and economic agenda of cooperation, the need to transform the existing Joint Committee on Trade into an Intergovernmental Commission was noted, with its first meeting later this year.
The commitment to further intensify cultural and humanitarian exchanges was reaffirmed.
The importance of enhancing cooperation in the training and qualification of personnel in the fields of energy, Islamic finance, ecology, artificial intelligence and tourism, as well as strengthening scientific and practical links in the field of health, was emphasized.
The rapid growth of the flow of Malaysian tourists to Uzbekistan was noted with great satisfaction. Measures to implement joint pilgrimage tourism programs, including the promotion of the “Umrah Plus” project to strengthen dialogue between the youth of the two countries, were discussed.
The leaders also exchanged views on topical issues of regional cooperation in Central and South-East Asia and Afghan issues. They noted the high level of mutual understanding and the importance of continuing mutual support within the framework of the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Non-Aligned Movement.
It was suggested that consideration be given to the idea of establishing a Foreign Ministers’ Dialogue Platform in the «Central Asia plus ASEAN» format.
Following the talks, which took place in a trusting, open and friendly atmosphere, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Prime Minister of Malaysia signed a joint declaration on deepening multifaceted cooperation.
