During a visit to the vehicle registration and diagnostics center, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev was presented with a project to streamline busy intersections and streets of Tashkent, as well as eliminate congestion.
The project set itself three main goals - ensuring the safety and convenience of pedestrians, prioritizing public transport, increasing capacity and reducing the number of road accidents.
This project was implemented in test mode at two major intersections of Tashkent - at the intersection of Bobura and Furkata streets, as well as at the intersection of Bogishamol street and the Tashkent ring road.
“Safety islands” for the pedestrians were created at the intersections, and traffic light control devices were installed at the pedestrian crossings. Public transport stops have been reconstructed to make it easier for the passengers to pick up and drop off.
A system of smart traffic lights was also installed at the intersections, the duration of which adapts to the intensity of traffic flow.
As a result of such projects, the capacity of intersections will significantly increase, congestion will decrease, and public transport will become more efficient.
The President gave the instructions to expand these works and fully implement the “city for pedestrians” principle.
