President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres at the Forumlar majmuasi Palace in Samarkand on 10 June.
The Head of our state, welcoming the guest, underlined that Uzbekistan will further reinforce cooperation with the UN and its agencies.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev expressed gratitude to the Secretary-General for visiting the burial place of First President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov and paying a tribute of respect to his memory.
It should be highlighted that the peaceful policy, the validated and constructive initiatives and multifaceted activity of Islam Karimov, which served as a main foundation for ensuring security and stability in the region, has been widely acknowledged throughout the world.
António Guterres sincerely thanked President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev for a warm welcome and underscored that the reforms under implementation in Uzbekistan have an important significance in increasing the welfare of the people and prosperity of the country.
During the talks, the current state and prospects of developing cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UN, its specialised agencies, the issues of regional international nature, mitigation of the consequences of the Aral Sea environmental disaster, were discussed. The parties considered the issues of reinforcing global security and stability, resolving social-economic and environmental problems.
The Head of our state also visited the burial place of First President of our country Islam Karimov. He paid a tribute of respect to his memory.
A memorial complex is being built at the burial place of Islam Karimov.
President of our country inspected the progress of construction works. In accordance with the project, additional verandas, teahouses and other infrastructure facilities are being built around the Khazrati Khizr mausoleum based on national architectural traditions.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasised that the tomb of the First President of our country must make up a single architectural ensemble with the Khazrati Khizr mosque. He accentuated the need to pay a specific attention to the harmony of verandas with the mausoleum.
The President instructed to further improve the memorial complex, to create additional conveniences for visitors, to widen and beautify adjacent territory to the complex.
