On May 1, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth of Independent States, Sergey Lebedev, who was in Uzbekistan chairing the observation mission for the constitutional referendum.
The head of our state sincerely thanked the Secretary-General and members of the Commonwealth mission for the active work throughout the regions of the country, as well as for the high assessment of the process and results of the referendum.
In his turn, the head of authoritative regional organization warmly congratulated the leader and the multi-ethnic people of Uzbekistan on the successful organization of nationwide voting in accordance with high international requirements and standards.
Confidence has been expressed that the outcomes of the referendum would be an important stage in the construction of the New Uzbekistan and the continuation of democratic reforms in the country.
During the meeting, the parties underscored the importance of the CIS platform for deepening mutually beneficial cooperation, primarily in trade, economic, industrial and transport spheres. The sides noted the growth dynamics of investment in the Commonwealth and highly appreciated the fruitful outcome of the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers held in Samarkand in March this year.
A particular attention has also been paid to the further continuation of active humanitarian exchange.
