On June 24, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev took part at a high-level dialogue on global development in the «BRICS Plus» format at the invitation of the President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping.
The heads of states and governments from 18 countries took part in the online forum chaired by China. Along with the leaders of Uzbekistan and China, the Algerian President Abdelmajid Tebboune, Argentine President Alberto Fernández, Egyptian President Abdal Fattah Al-Sisi, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Indonesian President Joko Widodo, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of Kazakhstan, Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, Cyril Ramaphosa, President of South Africa, Hamilton Mourão, Vice President of Brazil, and the heads of governments of Cambodia, Fiji, Ethiopia, Malaysia and Thailand have participated.
The organizers identified the development of global partnership and joint promotion of the Sustainable Development Agenda as the main topic of the event.
A multilateral cooperation in the security and stability, expansion of practical cooperation in trade and investment, «green» economy, high technology and innovation, digitalization, transport and logistics, environment and humanitarian sphere were considered.
In his speech, the President of Uzbekistan has noted a particular importance of the dialogue in the «BRICS Plus» format as an in-demand platform for inclusive partnership in promoting the Sustainable Development Agenda.
It was emphasized that the modern world is undergoing a profound transformation accompanied by a number of disturbing trends – the international tensions are growing and signs of a systemic economic crisis are emerging.
The attention of participants was drawn to the fact that in these conditions, a New Uzbekistan, consistently continuing reforms based on the principle «Human interests come first», is open for a broad international cooperation, including South-South interactions.
To overcome the consequences of crisis phenomena in the world economy, it was noted the importance of taking the concerted measures to remove trade barriers, create new production and logistics chains, attract investments in cooperation projects and infrastructure, as well as transfer of technologies and introduction of innovations, deepening cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence, digitalization, biotechnologies, development of vaccines.
In order to promote joint projects and initiatives, it was proposed to launch a «BRICS Plus» forum of business communities.
The President of Uzbekistan spoke in favor of strengthening transport and communication connectivity and including our region in the transcontinental routes «North-South» and «West-East».
The UN’s call for a stable and open circulation of food products in the markets was supported.
The importance of using the enormous potential of the BRICS countries, which account for up to half of the world’s agricultural production, deepen cooperation, form a reliable system of food supplies and make food accessible was stressed.
One of the key areas was the implementation of programs in the field of poverty reduction and support for entrepreneurship, as well as the intensification of multilateral cooperation on the climate agenda and human development. The President has expressed Uzbekistan’s interest in participating in the programs of the League of Universities and the BRICS Network University, as well as in vocational education and youth policy.
The Uzbek side, as chair at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, has also proposed to develop mechanisms of practical cooperation between the BRICS and the SCO.
In conclusion, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has underscored that the BRICS plus format dialogue had once again demonstrated the common determination to overcome common challenges and ensure global stability and sustainable development of our countries as soon as possible.
Other foreign leaders also spoke of the importance of expanding global partnership and mutually beneficial cooperation in promoting the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The promising areas of multilateral dialogue in the economy, investment, innovation and «green» technologies, trade, transport and communications, the environment, and other priority areas were outlined.
