On March 2, the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Counter-Terrorism Vladimir Voronkov as part of the Tashkent International Conference on the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy.
At the beginning of the meeting, Vladimir Voronkov conveyed to the President of Uzbekistan the sincere greetings and best wishes of the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. A special appreciation was expressed for the initiative to hold and organize a high-profile International conference, which will begin its two-day work tomorrow in our capital city.
Further development of our country’s practical cooperation with UN institutions and structures, including the UN Counter-Terrorism Office was discussed.
The President has noted with satisfaction the current level of productive cooperation. In particular, Uzbekistan is actively participating in the Office’s 15 counter-terrorism projects.
An important attention was paid to the implementation of the updated Joint Action Plan of the Central Asian States and the expansion of the project portfolio.
The possibilities of holding multilateral events in the framework of the Resolution of the General Assembly of the UN «Education and religious tolerance» adopted on the initiative of Uzbekistan, to protect the youth from a harmful influence of ideas of extremism and terrorism, exchange experience in the field of rehabilitation and reintegration of persons returned from «hot spots», as well as cooperation in the personnel training were discussed.
The sides exchanged views on the regional agenda, including the unfolding situation in Afghanistan, the adoption of measures to assist the Afghan people.
Following the meeting, an agreement was reached on the preparation of a «Joint Roadmap» to expand the practical partnerships between Uzbekistan and the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Office.
