The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with the Speaker of National Assembly of the Republic of Korea Park Byeong-seug in Seoul on December 17.

During the conversation, the sides have noted with satisfaction the comprehensive development of relations of special strategic partnership between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea, which has been given a new powerful impetus during the current visit of the President of Uzbekistan.

A high-productive political dialogue and contacts at various levels, including those in the sphere of inter-parliamentary cooperation, have been actively underway.

The inter-parliamentary «friendship groups» have been instrumental in enhancing the Uzbek-Korean relations. Their online meeting was held in June this year. They continue to exchange experiences in lawmaking, public administration reforms, civil society, gender issues, education and regional development.

During the meeting, the sides held a detailed exchange of views on intensifying the Uzbek-Korean cooperation.

The head of the National Assembly expressed willingness of the Korean side to expand the exchange of experience, including in terms of introducing the mechanisms of electronic parliament in Uzbekistan.

The Korean MPs confirmed their participation in the summit of women speakers of world parliaments, which is to be held in Tashkent next year.

The sides also supported the initiative on launching the new institutional mechanisms to promote joint programs and projects.

A mutual desire to continue close dialogue as a part of the Republic of Korea-Central Asia Cooperation Forum was confirmed.

Park Byeong-seug has noted that the forthcoming celebrations of historical dates in 2022 - the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the 85th anniversary of the Korean Diaspora in Uzbekistan - shall serve to further consolidate the friendship and mutual understanding between the two nations.

The sides have stressed the importance of establishing an effective parliamentary supervision over the implementation of agreements reached at the highest level. The representatives of the parliaments of the two countries assured that all of the efforts shall be made.
