On September 10 President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting with athletes and coaches who took part in the XVI Paralympic Games.

The leadership of the National Paralympic Committee and sports federations, parents of Paralympic athletes, representatives of state and public organizations, also attended the event.

The Paralympic Games were held from August 24 to September 5 in the Japanese capital city of Tokyo. To participate in them, our youth won 55 licenses in 8 types of sports, which today is the best result in domestic Paralympic sports.

Our young men and women, having shown high excellency and resilience, won 8 gold, 5 silver and 6 bronze medals. It is noteworthy that girls won 11 out of 19 awards.

In general, the national team of our country took the sixteenth place among more than 160 countries, the fourth - among the countries of Asia and the Commonwealth of Independent States, the first place in Central Asia.

At the ceremony, the President has congratulated everyone on the great success of our athletes.

President has congratulated the winners and prize-winners of the competition, thanked their coaches and parents.

«Your achievements are the result not only of relentless training, but also of strong psychological preparation, your strong will and noble aspirations», said Shavkat Mirziyoyev. As our ancestor, the great thinker Hakim Termizi, said: « You should not be sad if a person loses something. It is necessary to grieve when the desire to achieve something is lost. Since, the work started with pure thoughts will certainly bear good results».

A high priority is paid to the training and stimulation of athletes in our country. All conditions have been created for quality in preparation not only for the Olympic, but also for the Paralympic Games. The winners and prize-winners of the Paralympics were awarded cars and apartments in the capital city. In accordance with the presidential resolution, all participants and their trainers received monetary rewards.

President has noted the need to consolidate the gains made and start preparations for the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris today on the basis of a clearly-defined system. The important tasks in this direction have been identified.

The instructions were given to involve people with disabilities in sports, the development of the Paralympic movement, the selection and training of talents and the attraction of experienced specialists and coaches from abroad.

The Paralympic departments will be established in sports educational institutions, additional quotas will be allocated, special training programs and methods will be introduced.

The task was set to establish the activities of the Institute for the training of specialists in Paralympic sports at the National Paralympic Committee of Uzbekistan from the next year.

It was stated that in order to improve health, strengthen the physical and psychological preparation of Paralympians, it is important to assign them the Republican Scientific and Practical Center of Sports Medicine, to provide them with medications.

The tasks were set to develop winter Paralympic sports, create conditions for Paralympians at the «Amirsoy» Ski Resort and the «Humo Arena» Ice Palace.

President has proposed to create the «School of Courage» at the National Paralympic Committee of Uzbekistan.

«Unfortunately, today there are numerous young people who, faced with even a minor obstacle or difficulty in life, lose hope, stay discouraged and take the wrong path. If you, our dear athletes, hold meetings with young people in educational institutions, labor collectives, especially in makhallas (the local community areas), and tell them about your life, your difficult path, how you overcome challenges, I think they will definitely follow your example», - said the President.

The need for broad coverage of the life to light them with achievements and victories of Paralympians was also emphasized.

«The fact that they patiently and with a sense of gratitude took a worthy place in life, steadfastly overcoming the challenges of fate, is a vivid example of genuine heroism and courage. The more our people, especially young people, learn about the exemplary life and activities of such people, the higher the likelihood that they will follow their example, this will serve to further improve the spiritual environment in our society», - the President said.

In accordance with the Resolution of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, a group of athletes and coaches who achieved high results at the XVI Summer Paralympic Games in Tokyo were given honorary titles, and they were awarded orders and medals.

At the ceremony, a solemn presentation of these high awards took place.

The athletes, coaches and the parents, who spoke at the event, thanked for the high attention and support rendered from the state.
