On August 28 President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a telephone conversation with President of the European Council Charles Michel.
At the beginning of the conversation, the President of the Council of Europe has sincerely congratulated the Head of our State and the people of Uzbekistan on the 30th anniversary of the country’s independence, wishing peace, well-being, and prosperity. A strong support was expressed for the ongoing democratic reforms and socio-economic transformations in the country.
The topical issues of the Uzbek-European multifaceted cooperation were considered.
It was noted with satisfaction that granting to Uzbekistan the status of a beneficiary of the General System of Preferences Plus which contributes to the dynamic development of bilateral trade and economic relations, an increase in mutual trade, and the promotion of investment projects with the participation of leading EU companies, as well as the expansion of the financial and technical assistance program.
A particular attention was paid to the preparation of the agenda for the upcoming summit at the highest level, including the conclusion of the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement.
They also exchanged views on the development of the situation in the Region in connection with the escalation of tensions in Afghanistan. The President of the Council of Europe expressed a deep gratitude to the Leader of Uzbekistan for practical assistance in carrying out humanitarian operations to evacuate citizens.
In addition, the productive results of the International Conference on the Connectivity of Central and South Asia were held in July this year in Tashkent and the Third Consultative Meeting of the Heads of States of Central Asia in early August in Turkmenistan were highly appreciated.
