The leaders of Uzbekistan and Pakistan held a briefing for the mass media representatives at the end of the negotiations.
The President Shavkat Mirziyoyev considered the official visit of the Prime Minister of Pakistan an important political event, which is being opened a new page in the history of Intergovernmental relations.
«We are pleased that our multifaceted relations have been risen to the level of quality and content in recent years. The just finished negotiations in a narrow and expanded format have proved the firmness of our intentions to develop the relations of friendship and cooperation. Considering the current high level of interaction between Uzbekistan and Pakistan, we have signed a joint declaration on the strategic partnership between our States. We can say with confidence that this important step will open a new era in the history of our relationship.» Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.
This is my first visit to Uzbekistan, and I hope that this is not the last one. Mr. President and I had a very meaningful dialogue. The sincerity and duration of the talk were such that at the end I began to understand Uzbek language. Today, both Pakistan and Uzbekistan are working in harmony to support the poor, reduce poverty and develop education. We discussed the opportunities of cooperation in trade, economic, transport, educational, cultural, tourist spheres and we reached the strategic agreemants. Imran Khan said.
It was emphasized that during the productive talks, which were held in the atmosphere of the mutual trust, openess and in a sincere and pragmatic spirit, the new opportunities for partnership were considered and growth points were defined. It was emphasized that the volume of bilateral trade had increased to 4 times in recent years, the sides had agreed to increase this indicator to a further 4-5 times.
The joint Intergovernmental session and within the framework of today’s business forum , which were held on the eve of the visit, were reached the agreements on the specific projects worth more than $500 million. It should be noted that the Agreement on transit and trade, which will be served to achieve the large-scale plans by our country.
The agreement was also signed on implementing the new joint projects in agriculture, seed production and livestock breeding, engineering and construction, pharmacy and chemistry, light industry and other priority areas, as well as establishing the direct links between regions.
The construction of the railway «Termez - Mazar-i-Sharif - Kabul – Peshawar» was considered in detail.
As was noted at the briefing that the parties agreed to expand the cooperation in the field of security. The sides confirmed their continued mutual support in the framework of authoritative international and regional structures.
The prospects for cooperation in the areas of tourism and culture were also discussed.
