The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received Oleg Belozerov, CEO and Chairman of the Management Board of Russian Railways (LTD «RR»).

The sides discussed the new areas of the mutually beneficial cooperation in the field of railway communication, as well as ways to promote important infrastructure projects designed to use effectively the transit potential of the entire region.

The President noted with satisfaction the traditionally close and productive business relations between the railway administrations of the two countries, including in the framework of international industry structures.

It was emphasized that in the context of the pandemic, the presence of developed and integrated transport communications, primarily railways, has made it possible to successfully resist the consequences of the coronavirus, as well as maintain the dynamics of the trade and economic cooperation between Uzbekistan and Russia.

A special attention was paid to the deepening the practical partnerships, including the cooperation in terms of improving the railway communication system in Uzbekistan, creating conducive conditions for increasing the volume of cargo transportation, establishing the mechanisms for transporting the agricultural products, resuming passenger trains and training highly qualified specialists.

Separately, the issue of joint promotion of the Mazar-i–Sharif – Kabul-Peshawar railway construction project, with the involvement of international financial institutions, was considered.

An agreement was reached to participate in the work in terms of the comprehensive preparation of the project, including the development of technical documentation, and the early start of construction.

Oleg Belozerov has underscored the readiness for full-scale cooperation of industry companies to implement the priority tasks of the partnership in the field of railway transport.
