On May 12, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a telephone conversation with President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
At the beginning of the conversation, the Presidents exchanged the heartfelt congratulations on the Eid al-Fitr. The leaders stressed the special role and importance of this holy holiday for all Muslims, and expressed sincere wishes for peace, well-being and prosperity for the two fraternal peoples.
The Presidents discussed in detail the current bilateral agenda. A consistent development of the multifaceted cooperation in the difficult conditions of the coronavirus pandemic was noted.
In particular, there is an increase in exchanges and contacts at different levels. Since the beginning of this year, the trade has grown by 40%, 164 new joint ventures have been created, and the interactions between the regions is being established. The consulate of Turkey began operating in Samarkand. The joint cultural and humanitarian programs are being implemented, in particular in the fields of education, cinematography and sports.
The Presidents stressed the importance of careful preparations for the second meeting of the Strategic Cooperation Council in our country.
To this end, a regular meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation and a business forum will be held in Tashkent next month.
In addition, the implementation of joint investment projects in the spheres of industry, energy, agriculture, infrastructure, transport, tourism, healthcare and other areas was considered.
During the telephone conversation, the leaders exchanged views on international politics.
The Presidents expressed serious concern over the escalation of the situation in East Jerusalem. It was emphasized that the solution of the Palestinian-Israeli problem should be carried out peacefully in accordance with international law and based on previously adopted resolutions of the United Nations Security Council.
A special attention is paid to the cooperation in the framework of the Turkic Council, the Economic Cooperation Organization, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and other structures.
The conversation between the Presidents of Uzbekistan and Turkey took place in a traditionally open, friendly and trustworthy atmosphere.
