The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrived in the city of Samarkand on April 15.
The acquaintance with the large-scale construction work began at the Samarkand International Airport. During a visit to the region in 2019, the President instructed on the modernization of this air harbor.
The project envisages the construction of a new passenger terminal, runway, parking lots and other facilities. To date, the runway with a length of 3105 meters and a width of 60 meters has been completed, and the light and air navigation equipment is being installed on it.
First, the President has examined the runway – built according to the requirements of international standards.
Moreover, the new terminal will have a modern design and be able to serve 800 passengers per hour. The previous capacity of the airport was 400 passengers.
- The main goal should be the convenience of the airport for the people. It requires using smart technologies, making the services inexpensive, high-quality and fast, - said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
The 24 parking spaces for aircraft of various sizes are being built. Three parking lots will be designed for anti-icing treatment.
The cargo services will be provided at the airport. The President paid a special attention to this issue and instructed to increase the competitiveness of freight transportation.
- For stability and profitability of the cargo services, a constant flow of cargo is necessary. To do this, it is necessary to ensure the cheapness and speed of aircraft maintenance, shipment and delivery of cargo, as well as involvement of other airlines in this. In addition, the region, having increased the production of export-oriented horticulture products, will be able to deliver it to the world markets directly through this cargo center.
The renewed airport is scheduled to be commissioned in September this year. After opening, it will begin to work in an open sky mode. A thousand people will be provided with jobs.
The Samarkand International Airport was built in 1967.
