During Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s trip to the Ferghana Region on May 6, 2019, a project of limestone-based paper production was presented. The result of the implementation of this project was the «Ferghana Stone Paper» enterprise in Ferghana.

Here, based on a unique technology from China, the production of 9 thousand tons of limestone-based paper per year has been put in place. The enterprise was launched in pilot mode on the eve of the President’s visit.

The limestone-based paper has several advantages. First, a lot of water is used to produce cellulose paper, which is incapacitated for further use due to harmful substances in its composition. The water is not used in the production of limestone-based paper.

Second, such paper has higher resistance and durability. It is resistant to moisture and dirt. Therefore, the limestone-based paper is convenient to use in printing, packaging and wallpaper production and highly demanded in the foreign market.

The enterprise employs 60 people. The President got acquainted with the technological process, inquired about the quality of the paper produced.

“Papermaking is one of the ancient branches of our handicraft. Once, Samarkand paper was famous for the whole world. This enterprise is the restoration of historical traditions at the industrial level”, - said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

The President also learned about the import-substituting industrial goods produced in the Ferghana

Region.
