On February 2, President of the Republic Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a delegation of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan - Foreign Minister Mohammad Haneef Atmar and the Chief of Staff to the President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mohammad Shaker Kargar.

Opening up the meeting, the President has emphasized the importance of maintaining the current dynamics of the development of bilateral relations and the practical implementation of previously reached agreements at the highest level.

The members of the Afghan delegation expressed sincere gratitude to the leader of Uzbekistan for a warm welcome and extended heartfelt greetings and best wishes of the President of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani.

Deep gratitude was expressed for the resolute efforts of the Uzbek Side aimed at ensuring peaceful life and sustainable development in Afghanistan.

The productive outcomes of the first meeting of the trilateral working group on the Trans-Afghan Railway construction project was highly appreciated. The said meeting was held today in Tashkent involving the heads of leading international financial institutions.

The sides highlighted the importance of early preparation and start of practical implementation of this project, active involvement of foreign partners and potential investors based on the the adopted «Road Map».

Moreover, topical issues of further expansion of the Uzbek-Afghan multifaceted cooperation were discussed.

First of all, it is about creating favorable conditions for increasing the volume of trade turnover and reaching the level of at least $2 billion in the coming years, strengthening cooperation in industry, energy, agriculture and logistics, implementing important programs in the field of health, education and culture.

During the meeting the schedule of upcoming events and contacts at the high and highest levels was discussed, as well.
