On January 12, ahead of an important event in the life of our nation – the 29th anniversary of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Motherland Defenders Day, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Academy of the Armed Forces in Tashkent.
The head of state reviewed the outcomes of works undertaken to improve the activities and infrastructure of this educational institution, as well as samples of modern weaponry and military equipment employed by the country’s Armed Forces, along with products of national defense industry enterprises.
Afterwards, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces chaired an expanded meeting of the Security Council to examine the results of the activities of Armed Forces and military-administrative sectors in 2020 and priority tasks for the future.
The session was attended by members of the Security Council, the leadership and command staff of the Armed Forces, heads of local government bodies and representatives of public organizations.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev offered a comprehensive analysis of the work spearheaded to uplift the defense capabilities of our country, the measures taken to develop the Armed Forces and corresponding results. The head of our state critically evaluated the activities of ministries and departments as well as local government bodies.
The head of state noted that on the basis of the 2017-2021 Strategy of Actions for the Development of the Republic of Uzbekistan, a number of decisions were adopted given contemporary requirements across all walks of life, including those on the most critical issues of military development, and as a result of systemic, strategic and comprehensive measures, the combat readiness of the army and the national defense as a whole have significantly increased within short periods of time.
The President voiced a number of instructions on the further advancement of the Armed Forces and the consolidation of national defense capability, the widespread introduction of cutting-edge information and communication technologies and innovations.
In particular, urgent tasks outlined for the future included the improvement of activities of command and control bodies at all levels, growth in the level of operational and combat training of troops through the introduction of means and complexes of automated control, provision for information and cyber security.
In terms of training military personnel, raising their qualifications, as well as developing military science, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces gave directives to streamline the methods and techniques of training troops through a deep study of hostilities and latest practice of warfare, as well as the history of national military art.
The importance of the consistent continuation of the initiated reforms in the system of military education, improvement in the activities of military schools, lyceums and colleges was noted, including in the military-academic lyceums Temurbeklar Maktabi. Shavkat Mirziyoyev also stressed the need to cement the sense of national pride, love and devotion to the Motherland, justice, by using the rich heritage of our great ancestors, including the military leadership skills of Jaloliddin Manguberdi, Amir Temur, Shohruh Mirzo, Zahiriddin Muhammad Babur and others.
In addition, instructions were given on the transformation of the Victory Park and the Museum of Glory in Tashkent into research centers, where the population, especially young people, military servicemen and women can get familiar with the military history and the exploits of our outstanding ancestors.
Today, in the context of intensifying confrontations in the global information space, struggle for the hearts and minds of people, especially the younger generation, the role and significance of military-patriotic education has been growing.
In this regard, the head of state instructed the officials to improve the system of military-patriotic enlightenment of the population, especially young people, to engage them in the reform process in our country, to create conditions for the realization of their intellectual and creative potential.
The task has been set to raise the work on the military-patriotic education of the population and youth to a new level, to bolster the civic stance under the motto “Brave soldier is a model for youth”, to assign at least 10 schools to the military district commanders with lessons of patriotism and military glory in them by commanders of military units.
The President urged to organize, using the modern infrastructure created in the Armed Forces, not only military-patriotic education of young people, but also training them in professions that are in demand in the labor market.
The head of state also noted that “a state unable to instill in its children a high patriotic spirit will not be able to strengthen its defense capability, no matter how prevailing weapons systems it may have”.
In addition, Shavkat Mirziyoyev gave instructions for the furthering the country’s defense industry, perfecting the system of protecting the state border, monitoring and forecasting emergency situations, increasing the efficiency of work to prevent accidents and man-made disasters.
The Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces noted that improving the spiritual and ethical situation in military families, introducing exemplary approaches to establishing healthy lifestyle and raising children, social support and housing for servicemen and women and their families will remain an important and priority policy.
At the end of the meeting, the head of state stressed that the efforts to further advance the Armed Forces is the principal prerequisite for ensuring security as well as peaceful and harmonious life of our people, and for building the new Uzbekistan.
