President Shavkat Mirziyoyev is set to tour Tashkent to review construction works in progress.
The first destination is the campus of the newly established University of Geological Sciences in the Mirzo Ulugbek district. On January 31 of this year, the head of state laid the foundation stone for the construction of a new higher education institution. The works are in full swing today.
The project provides for the erection of six and the reconstruction of four multi-storey buildings. At the first stage, an educational block, those of the Institute of Geology and Exploration of Oil and Gas Fields, the Institute of Mineral Resources, the Institute of Geology and Geophysics, the Museum of Geology are being built, as are the library and a hostel.
The President decided to visit the construction site once more to personally familiarize with current works and those forthcoming.
“Science is in our blood, in our genes. This university serves as one of the foundations of the third Renaissance,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev suggested.
In his Address to the Oliy Majlis on January 24 this year and at a meeting with scientists a week later, the head of our state set a range of pressing tasks for the development of the field of geology. On this basis, a new system is being created in the country. Four resolutions of the President were adopted on this front.
The University of Geological Sciences will lay the foundation for restoring the once-glorious scholarly potential of the industry and for training modern-minded specialists. The institution is established on the basis of four research institutes, who used to be located in separate premises across the capital city. A single complex will now facilitate close cooperation of specialists, convenience for students in pursuing internships in laboratories, expediency in infrastructure maintenance, and reduction of costs.
Here the President talked with heads of research institutes.
“Science is the fundamental basis for the development of all industries. Had we paid attention to it in time, we could now be able to provide employment for 15-20 percent of the population across geology areas. We have embarked on delivering conditions to protect and support intellectual property. It benefits both its owner and the state,” the President pointed out.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev inquired about the conditions created here and stressed that construction should be carried out with high quality, laboratories should be equipped with high technologies.
“This task should be approached considerately, for we have high hopes for this university,” the head of state added.
Officials in charge briefed the President on the second phase of the project. In particular, the buildings of the State Committee for Geology, Geological Information Center, Center for Geo-Innovative Technologies and a parking lot are due for construction within that stage.
