The Uzbek science has suffered a heavy loss.
The celebrated scholar in social philosophy and sociology, member of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, Sattar Tursunmuhamedov passed away on July 21, at the age of 91.
The Academician was born on 11 January 1929 in the city of Turkestan, Chimkent region of Kazakhstan. In 1952, the young man graduated from the Central Asian University (currently the National University of Uzbekistan) and was enrolled in the postgraduate program of this institution. Tursunmuhamedov defended his PhD and then doctoral dissertations, hence was awarded corresponding titles. For many years of achievements in science, in 2000 he was elected a full-fledged member of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan.
Sattar Tursunmuhamedov started his career in 1955 as a senior lecturer at the Tashkent Institute of Finance and Economics. For his 65-year plus scientific and teaching activity, the talented scholar worked fruitfully in responsible positions – Associate Professor, Professor, Head of Department at the Tashkent Institute of National Economy (now Tashkent State Economic University), Director of the Republican Institute for Advanced Training of Teachers of Social Sciences, Rector of the Nizami Tashkent State Pedagogical Institute (currently the Tashkent State Pedagogical University), Director of the Republican Institute for Training Highly Qualified Teachers, Head of Department at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy. Academician Tursunmuhamedov made a remarkable contribution to the development of science and education, the training of highly qualified scholars and teachers.
His studies and monographs, articles and brochures on theoretical and practical issues in social philosophy and sociology are quite popular with specialists in our country.
As a devoted academic and a caring mentor, Sattar Tursunmuhamedov taught young people the secrets of science, guided dozens of PhDs and doctors under his direct supervision.
The Academician Tursunmuhamedov’s merits in the development of national science were appreciated with due respect. He was awarded the title Honored Scientist of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The memory of the outstanding scholar, the considerate tutor and humble man Sattar Tursunmuhamedov will forever rest in our hearts.
