President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has chaired a video session on curbing the spread of coronavirus infection and ensuring economic stability in the regions.
At the dawn of this year, tremendous goals were set out to further the national development. But the plans changed substantially in March, when the coronavirus that spread to the whole world also penetrated into Uzbekistan. Measures to protect public health became the pricnipal priority for the state.
A special republican commission was set up for these purposes, medical institutions placed in emergency mode. Within a short period of time, a special hospital and quarantine zones were built. Sanatoriums and children’s leisure camps got adapted to serve as special venues. Funds were allocated from national and local budgets to provide medicines, means of protection and diagnostics.
During these five troubling months, the President signed a number of decrees and resolutions related to countering the coronavirus. In accordance with them, the population, sectors of the economy and business entities have been receiving all possible support.
The head of our state keeps the epidemiological situation under constant control. Almost every meeting deals with this problem one way or another.
Earlier, the state of pandemic in the capital and Tashkent region was comprehensively analyzed at a meeting chaired by Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
This time around, the situation in other regions and current measures on this front has been in spotlight.
Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Karakalpakstan and hokims of provinces reported on viral rates, the number of patients undergoing treatment and reserves of beds created. The state of affairs in the area of responding to public appeals, the work of ambulance services, and medicines’ supply has been analyzed.
Problems faced by local authorities got discussed at the meeting. Measures were outlined to meet the needs of regions for equipment and means to combat the pandemic.
The President instructed the corresponding executives to monitor the situation in real time mode and promptly address emerging issues.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized the importance of high-quality and safe organization of treatment, as well as prevention of disease transmission by providing the population and institutions with disinfectants.
Based on the needs of each region, sources have been determined for the supply of medicines, healthcare products and test systems, material incentives for medical personnel.
The local leaders also reported on the results of works undertaken toward the sustainable development of the economy amid pandemic, in attracting investments and increasing exports in the first half of the year.
The meeting participants analyzed measures taken to assess the pandemic impact on the economy, ensure macroeconomic stability, implement investment projects in time, meet the forecast parameters in agriculture, industry and construction, boost exports, secure comprehensive development of the region, and support entrepreneurship.
Pointing to a decline in revenues in each region, the head of state ordered to restore the activities of most construction and industrial enterprises by 1 October 2020 and all types of enterprises by the end of the year.
In a number of regions, economic forecasts for the agricultural sector failed to be fulfilled. In particular, the volume of gross agricultural product in Karakalpakstan amounted to 59 billion soums less than forecast parameters. This figure is 177 billion soums in Kashkadarya region, 173 billion in Syrdarya region and 129 billion in Tashkent region.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev urged the officials to fill the gaps in vegetables and melons harvest owing to re-acreage, accelerate the distribution of poultry to households, speed up the extensive use of intensive technologies in animal husbandry and fishing, and boost agricultural production by 3-4 percent by the end of the year.
