Today, on January 17, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a World Bank delegation led by Vice President Cyril Muller.
The World Bank Group is a leading global financial institution, a strategic partner of our country in spearheading the new program of socio-economic transformation.
WB experts have been keen in contributing to the formulation of proposals and the promotion of effective reforms in Uzbekistan in the banking, financial and tax spheres, agriculture and water management, geology, education, in efforts designed to improve the investment climate and business environment, as well as other priority areas.
Today, the portfolio of complete and continuing World Bank projects in Uzbekistan reaches $ 5.5 billion.
Last year, the Bank approved new promising projects worth up to $ 1 billion. Successful events included a bid for the construction of a solar power station in the Navoi region, and the Country Platform presentation Washington, DC.
The head of our state suggested that all these achievements owe much to the close interaction, open and constructive dialogue established between Uzbekistan and the World Bank.
In turn, Cyril Muller conveyed sincere greetings of World Bank Group President David Malpass and renewed the Bank’s assurances of comprehensive support for the reform program in Uzbekistan.
Topical issues and promising areas of bilateral cooperation were discussed during the meeting.
Particular emphasis was placed on the enhancement of assistance for promoting reforms in key areas, including agriculture, energy, hydrocarbon industry, transport and other sectors, as well as for realizing joint projects in fighting poverty.
The parties agreed to devise a new long-term partnership strategy between Uzbekistan and the World Bank.
