Last June, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev laid a symbolic foundation stone for the Center for Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan. Ever since extensive construction works have been undertaken at this site. The underground level and walls of the building have been erected, the installation of roof structures is currently in progress.
Occupying almost 10 hectares, the complex is intended to become a major academic and enlightenment center. The basement of the building is reserved for a museum warehouse and premises for the restoration of ancient manuscripts and antiques. The ground floor is reported to house a library, a conference hall, exhibition lobbies dedicated to the great contribution of our ancestors to the development of science, and displaying the traditions of national architecture art. The central foyer will boast the Koran of Osman. The information and resource center, scientific departments and other premises are said to be located on the second floor.
The head of state reviewed the construction process, came up with recommendations regarding the exterior and interior of the building, the color design of the dome.
“Through this venue we want to stamp the contribution our nation has made to the development of science, enlightenment and culture. The Center of Islamic civilization should be a fundamental base for scientific institutions exploring this topic. It is essential that the activities of the Center be closely intertwined with the educational process at the International Islamic Academy of Uzbekistan, that students study and teachers improve their skills here,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev insisted.
The President dwelled on the issue of careful storage of the Koran of Osman. In particular, he gave instructions on ensuring its safety in accordance with the requirements for temperature and light level, as well as creating amenities for visitors.
