President Begins Visit to Bukhara Region

03.11.2026

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrived in Bukhara region on November 3 to review ongoing development work and projects in various sectors of the economy.

The visit began with a pilgrimage to the Bahauddin Naqshband Mausoleum in Kagan district. Surahs from the Holy Quran were recited, and prayers were offered for peace and prosperity for our people.

Khoja Muhammad Bahauddin Naqshband was a great 14th-century scholar and the founder of the Naqshbandi Sufi order. The architectural complex that took shape around his mausoleum over the centuries remains one of the most revered shrines in the Islamic world to this day.

The Bahauddin Naqshband Architectural Complex, which receives an average of around 15,000 visitors a day, is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as part of the “Silk Roads: Zarafshan-Karakum Corridor.”

In recent years, work has been carried out to preserve the historical appearance of the complex and improve facilities for pilgrims. Based on 15th-century drawings, the Doniyolbiy Otaliq Madrasah and the Toqi Miyona Gate have been restored, while a museum exhibition and a research center have been established.

The President emphasized that for centuries Bukhara has played an important role in the development of enlightened Islam. He noted the need to study this rich spiritual heritage in depth and use it effectively to educate young people and inspire them to pursue knowledge and enlightenment.

“The Center for Islamic Civilization, the Imam Bukhari Complex, and the Imam Maturidi Complex all serve a common purpose: to carry forward the scholarly legacy of our great ancestors and educate young people in that spirit,” the President said.
