Andijan International Airport is taking on a modern appearance and expanding its capabilities. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev began his visit to the region by inspecting the ongoing reconstruction of the airport.

During his visit to the region three years ago, the Head of State instructed officials to modernize the airport. He also inspected the progress of reconstruction during his visit last year.

The airport was commissioned in 1978 and received international status in 2013. The facility covers a total area of 243.4 hectares and employs 100 people. Over time, the need arose to bring the airport in line with modern requirements, improve passenger comfort and expand the geography of flights.

The total cost of the airfield complex reconstruction project is 1.1 trillion soums. During the first stage, the airport infrastructure was completely modernized. The runway was extended to 3.3 kilometers, and a new 60-meter-wide runway meeting Category 4E standards was built. Taxiways and parking stands capable of accommodating 10 aircraft were also constructed.

Particular attention was paid to construction quality and the long-term durability of the facilities. The runway features durable cement-concrete pavement designed to last up to 50 years. A high-precision German-made airfield lighting system has also been installed, allowing the airport to safely receive aircraft at night and in dense fog. Aircraft can land even when visibility is reduced to 300 meters. The airport can now accommodate large wide-body aircraft without restrictions.

The second stage of reconstruction is currently underway. As part of this stage, a modern two-story terminal with a total area of 19,685 square meters is being built. While the airport previously served up to 200 passengers per hour, the new terminal will increase this capacity fivefold. The airport will also feature high-speed Wi-Fi and smart services.

The Head of State was presented with the airport’s development concept. He instructed responsible officials to ensure the timely and high-quality completion of the new terminal.

Currently, seven airlines operate regular domestic and international flights through Andijan International Airport. In the future, the number of flights is expected to increase from 808 to 2,500 per year, while the airport’s annual capacity will reach 3.5 million passengers.

It was noted that the ongoing modernization will improve transport accessibility for residents of Andijan and visitors to the region and help unlock the region’s economic and tourism potential. The President also instructed officials to develop modern service facilities near the airport and improve the quality of services provided.
