On June 29, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received Bo Li, Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, who arrived in Uzbekistan to attend a regular meeting of the IMF Executive Board's Swiss Constituency.
At the beginning of the meeting, Bo Li conveyed warm greetings and best wishes from IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva to the President of Uzbekistan.
The parties discussed the current situation and prospects for the development of global financial markets.
They also reviewed key aspects of further strengthening practical cooperation with the IMF, primarily within the framework of the agreements reached during the President's meeting with the IMF Managing Director in New York last September.
The Fund's important role in implementing large-scale reforms in Uzbekistan was noted, particularly in strengthening monetary, foreign exchange, and fiscal policies.
The parties emphasized the need to expand expert and technical assistance in developing macroeconomic policy and a digital payments strategy, liberalizing capital movement, improving national statistical methodology and public revenue management, and maintaining a free exchange rate.
Particular attention was also paid to expanding personnel training programs for the country's economic agencies.
