President of Uzbekistan advocates for expansion of comprehensive partnership with ADB

03.05.2026

The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, as part of his program in Samarkand, received a delegation from the Asian Development Bank led by the President of this reputable multilateral financial institution Masato Kanda.

At the beginning of the meeting, the head of the ADB sincerely thanked the President of Uzbekistan for the support and assistance provided in holding the 59th Annual Meeting of the Bank’s Board of Governors in Uzbekistan.

The parties reviewed practical aspects of expanding comprehensive and mutually beneficial cooperation between Uzbekistan and the Asian Development Bank.

The high level of cooperation achieved was noted with deep satisfaction. Over 30 years of cooperation, the ADB has become a true strategic partner of Uzbekistan.

The project portfolio totals nearly $16 billion, placing Uzbekistan among the Bank’s largest partners in the region in terms of financing volume.

Major projects have been implemented and continue to be carried out for the modernization of railways and roads, energy and social infrastructure, the renewal of water supply and sewage networks, and the development of agriculture and the private sector, among other areas.

The President of Uzbekistan and the head of the ADB noted the importance of the timely and effective implementation of projects worth $12.5 billion included in the new Partnership Program with the ADB through 2030, which was signed as part of the summit.

An agreement was reached on joint work in areas such as support for the mortgage market, the private sector, youth and women’s entrepreneurship, poverty reduction, promoting reforms in inclusive education and human capital development, introducing digital innovations, and modernizing infrastructure in special economic zones.

Special attention was paid to promoting major infrastructure projects in the Central Asia region, including strengthening the Bank’s leading role in mobilizing funds.

In conclusion, the President of Uzbekistan wished the leadership and staff of the ADB a successful and productive Board of Governors meeting.

Following the meeting, a ceremony was held to exchange the new Partnership Program between Uzbekistan and the ADB through 2030.
