President Shavkat Mirziyoyev was briefed on the production of freight cars at enterprises within the Uzbekistan Railways JSC and on plans for the coming years.
The modernization of transport infrastructure, expansion of export potential, and provision of uninterrupted logistics for economic sectors are among the priorities of Uzbekistan’s state policy.
Large-scale transformations are underway in the railway industry. They are contributing to the comprehensive modernization of the sector, the expansion of production capacities, and the phased renewal of the rolling stock.
In particular, between 2023 and 2025, 1,590 gondola freight cars were produced under a project valued at $105 million. This contributes to increasing freight turnover in both domestic and international transport and ensuring the stability of supply chains.
The second stage of the project, valued at $150 million and scheduled for 2025–2026, has been launched for the production of freight and passenger cars, as well as the modernization of car-building enterprises within Uzbekistan Railways JSC. The manufacture of 954 freight cars and 70 passenger cars is planned.
To date, 45 passenger cars and 340 tank cars have been produced under the project. By the end of this year, an additional 614 freight cars and 25 passenger cars are scheduled to be manufactured.
To further increase freight car production in the coming years, a separate presidential resolution was recently adopted. In accordance with the document, an additional 100 million dollars will be allocated, and the supply of 1,350 freight cars will be ensured. For this purpose, the task has been set to increase the capacity of industrial enterprises by 1.5 times and reach a production level of 2,000 freight cars this year.
The President instructed the responsible officials to modernize the rolling stock, increase transportation volumes, and optimize costs.
