On October 15, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited Yakkasaray district of the city of Tashkent and got acquainted with the construction results of Shota Rustaveli street.
Road infrastructure development and creation of amenities for the traffic is one of the relevant objectives for the capital, population and territory of which are actively growing. This is why modern roads and bridges are being developed in the city systematically, the existing ones are being modernized in line with modern standards.
Shota Rustaveli street is one of the central highways connecting a number of Tashkent’s districts. To improve the transport flow, a part of the road from Mirabad street to Choshtepa street with the length of almost 7 kilometers was reconstructed.
Now traffic is organized into 10 lanes: six are for cars, two - for buses, and two - for parking.
The President, together with representatives of state and public organizations, drove down the street on a bus, got acquainted with the amenities and talked to passengers.
For the first time in Tashkent, based on the experience of developed countries, a BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) system has been introduced, with dedicated lanes for public transport. This innovation has accelerated bus traffic and increased passenger comfort.
As a result of the $19.2 million project, passenger traffic has increased from 2,5 thousand to 6 thousand people per hour. The road's capacity has reached 40 thousand vehicles per day, and the average speed has increased from 23 to 30 kilometers per hour.
Most importantly, safety has improved and the number of road accidents has decreased significantly.
As part of the project, 21 new bus stops and 463 “smart” traffic lights have been installed, and an intelligent transport system has been introduced. Parking areas, bicycle paths, green areas, irrigation and drainage systems were also provided.
The President was also presented with projects on expanding the network of dedicated bus lanes and creating transport hubs around the capital.
- If we had not built new metro lines and purchased modern buses, traffic in Tashkent would have become extremely difficult today. Therefore, we are improving roads and developing public transport to make it convenient for people. We will continue this work in all our cities, - noted Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
The President instructed the responsible officials to improve the convenience of public transport, take measures to reduce traffic jams, and ensure effective transport links between Tashkent and New Tashkent.
The renovated Shota Rustaveli street has not only beautified the capital, but has also become a symbol of Tashkent's transition to a modern and intelligent transport system.
