Proposals on electrical engineering industry development reviewed

08.10.2025

On October 8, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed a presentation on measures to further develop the electrical engineering industry and enhance the sector’s export potential.

In recent years, consistent reforms have been carried out in this field in Uzbekistan, with modern production facilities being established and production and export volumes steadily growing. In the first nine months of this year, industry output increased by 16.3% to reach 34 trillion soums, while exports amounted to $970 million.

At the same time, there remain significant untapped opportunities in the sector. In particular, it is important to increase the share of high value-added products, deepen copper processing, and diversify exports. Currently, only about 60% of copper exports account for high value-added goods.

The presentation also reviewed proposals aimed at encouraging deeper processing of raw materials and further supporting domestic producers. These include providing discounts on raw material purchases, state compensation for the part of loan interest rates exceeding 5%, as well as tax and customs incentives.

It was noted that, alongside the production of traditional types of products, greater efforts should be made to develop high-tech sectors, including electronics and the semiconductor industry.

According to forecasts, copper production in Uzbekistan will reach 250 thousand tons in the coming years and 500 thousand tons by 2030. Responsible officials reported on projects aimed at using this resource base to produce high value-added products, including servers, industrial electronics, air conditioners, solar panels, measuring instruments and automation systems, as well as smart cards.

Overall, a portfolio of 157 projects with a total value of $2.1 billion has been formed in the sector, and their implementation is expected to create 14,5 thousand new jobs.

The meeting also reviewed the activities of electrical engineering technoparks in various regions of the country.

Opportunities for promoting domestic products in international markets are expanding. The Uzbek Institute of Standards has become a member of the International Electrotechnical Commission’s certification scheme, enabling certificates issued to Uzbek manufacturers to be recognized in 53 countries.

In addition, the Agency for technical regulation, together with European partners, is establishing a conformity assessment system. This will allow Uzbek products to carry the “CE” mark, confirming compliance with EU standards, and will allow to at least double exports to European markets.

The Head of State issued specific instructions to accelerate the implementation of planned measures and projects, maintain export growth rates, and enter new foreign markets.
