Shavkat Mirziyoyev launches the National Museum of Uzbekistan

27.08.2025

On August 27, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev laid the foundation stone for the construction of the National Museum of Uzbekistan.

Our country's independence has become the foundation for the revival of national identity and the fulfillment of noble aspirations. And this year's Independence Day, as before, is marked by joyful events.

One such historic event was the start of construction of the new National Museum.

During his visit to the construction site, the President was presented with information about the building's design, its features and the stages of construction.

The museum was designed by the Japanese architectural firm Tadao Ando Architect & Associates in collaboration with the German company Atelier Brückner. The architectural design combines circles, squares and triangles, symbolizing the harmony between Eastern and Western cultures. The complex will include a three-story museum, a two-level underground floor and auxiliary buildings. The general contractor for the construction is the Chinese company CSCEC International Construction.

A ceremony marking the start of construction was held in Tashkent. Cultural and artistic figures, scientists, writers, veterans, and representatives of the public gathered in the square near the National Park of Uzbekistan.

Congratulating those gathered on the upcoming Independence Day, the President noted:

– Along with the development of all spheres, we are making efforts to restore our values. We are building such grandiose complexes as the Center of Islamic Civilization, the Imam Bukhari ensemble, and the Olympic town. The main goal is to make these buildings the property of the people. Today, we are starting the construction of another historical site – the National Museum of Uzbekistan. This museum will become a center of science, education, and culture, bringing our rich three thousand years of heritage to the people, the international community, and future generations, - said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

As noted, today more than a million exhibits are stored in 30 museums in Tashkent. Of these, 100 thousand belong to the State Museum of Art, but only 2,4 thousand are on display. More than 97 thousand rare works are in storage due to a lack of exhibition space.

- Unique works of art reflecting the culture of Central Asia, China, Japan, India and Europe are an invaluable treasure not only for our people but for all of humanity. Preserving these values for future generations and displaying them to the world community is our sacred duty, - emphasized the President.

This is the first museum of this scale to be built in the history of our country. Its total area will be 40 thousand square meters. The exhibition halls, library, restoration laboratories and storage facilities will be equipped with the most modern facilities.

This will allow scattered exhibits from the capital's museums – ancient and modern works of art and historical objects – to be brought together in one place. Up to 10 thousand exhibits can be displayed here at the same time.

In addition, conference rooms, auditoriums, restaurants, and playgrounds will be located on an area of 4 thousand square meters.

Once it's up and running, the museum will form a single architectural complex with the Abulkasim madrasah, the Palace of friendship of peoples, and the National Park of Uzbekistan. It'll be a themed tourist center that will attract both locals and visitors from abroad.

In the future, it is planned to establish close cooperation with the Louvre, the Metropolitan Museum, the British Museum, and other world-renowned institutions, organize exhibitions, and bring in unique exhibits.

- I am confident that the complex under construction will demonstrate even more vividly the role of our country in world history and civilization. It will serve the people not for one year or even a decade, but for many generations, - emphasized  Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the end of his speech.

The Head of State then laid a capsule in the foundation, officially launching construction.
