On August 12, the Head of our state held a meeting on the effectiveness of the ongoing reforms and new projects implementation in Bukhara region.
Before the region’s economy has been represented by a few sectors. In the past eight years the region attracted over $8 billion in investment, which allowed to significantly diversify the structure of economy.
Only in the industry 6 thousand of new enterprises have opened, and the volume of industrial output has increased by over 6 times.
Significant changes have also taken place in the field of tourism: infrastructure has been improved, new facilities have been created and well-known hotel brands have entered the region. The annual tourist flow has reached 1,7 million people.
In accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated December 5, 2024, additional measures were defined for the development of industry and services in Bukhara region. As a result, in the first half of the current year, industrial production increased by 7,3 percent, 198 new industrial enterprises were established, and the gross regional product grew by 6,4 percent.
The reform headquarters created in Bukhara on the initiative of the Head of State is identifying additional opportunities for economic growth. At the presentation, officials presented a number of new investment projects.
Thus, Turkish entrepreneurs showed interest in the extraction and processing of graphite in the Peshkun district, a Vietnamese company plans to build a modern residential complex, and an Indian company intends to establish a surgical center. On a plot of 217 hectares, it is planned to implement 260 projects creating more than 10 thousand jobs.
Overall, a portfolio of 21 new projects worth $1,7 billion has been formed in the region. Their implementation will create 32 thousand jobs and ensure an export potential of $180 million.
The President noted the additional opportunities for the development of the regional economy and provision of employment for the population.
In particular, affordable greenhouses have already been built on lands leased by residents in Peshkun district, where export-oriented crops are grown. The task has been set to expand this experience and create such greenhouses in another 5 thousand households across the region.
On an area of 10 thousand hectares vineyards will be developed in Shafirkan, Gijduvan, Peshkun and Bukhara districts, and gardens with apricots, cherries, figs and other demanded in external markets fruits will be developed on an area of 5 thousand hectares in Vabkent, Gijduvan, Jandar, Romitan and Kagan districts.
Bukhara is renowned for its ancient shrines, however, the region lacks large complexes capable of keeping tourists for an extended period. In this regard, it was proposed to attract foreign investors to build a shopping and entertainment park.
Another strategic direction is industry. The region has two major oil and gas enterprises in operation, another is under construction, and 10 large solar and wind power plants are actively being built. It was noted that a network of small enterprises could be developed around these facilities, which would increase the volume of investment, industrial production and exports.
The hokims of the region and districts presented plans to increase income sources for the population, as well as to reduce poverty and unemployment.
