Uzbekistan and the UN to increase mutually beneficial cooperation

05.08.2025

On the sidelines of the third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, a meeting was held between the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

Topical issues of global and regional development, including organization of the upcoming 80th anniversary session of UN General Assembly, were reviewed.

In this context, the leader of Uzbekistan expressed strong support for the initiatives of the Secretary-General on ensuring international peace and stability, reforming the UN and its main institutions to adapt them to modern realities.

Special attention was given to the further expansion of multifaceted cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UN, as well as the practical implementation of the agreements reached during the visit of António Guterres to our country in July last year.

It was noted with satisfaction that 160 joint programs and projects are currently being successfully implemented.

Over the past few years, 13 resolutions of the UN General Assembly have been adopted at the initiative of Uzbekistan.

This year, heads of key UN structures and institutions, including UN-Habitat and UNICEF, have visited Uzbekistan, and a country office of “UN Women” has been opened in Tashkent.

A joint Forum on public service was held. Active preparations are underway for the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference in the city of Samarkand.

Our country has entered the top five most progressive countries in the Global Sustainable Development Goals Index. A new five-year cooperation program with the UN, in the context of achieving the SDGs, is expected to be signed.

Issues of deepening integration in Central Asia and involving Afghanistan in regional cooperation processes were also discussed.

Following the meeting, mutual readiness was confirmed to further strengthen practical interaction and expand joint programs and projects.
