President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received an Italian delegation headed by the Governor of Lombardy Attilio Fontana, who arrived in our country to participate in the Tashkent Investment Forum.
Lombardy is one of the most populous and largest regions of Italy and is among the most economically developed areas in Europe.
Practical aspects of mutually beneficial cooperation were discussed, primarily in the trade, economic and investment spheres.
The fruitful outcomes of the recent talks in Samarkand with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, during which an agreement was reached to support interregional contacts, were noted with deep satisfaction.
Today, projects with Lombardy companies are being successfully implemented in our country in tomato and saffron cultivation, production of non-woven fabrics and knitwear, and food products. Additional projects under development include production of ready-made textiles, automotive electronics, construction materials, dairy and fruit-and-vegetable processing, development of public transport and others.
The importance of increasing the joint projects’ portfolio, expansive attraction of leading Italian technologies and investments in various economic sectors of Uzbekistan was underlined.
An agreement was reached on organizing an exhibition of industrial and export potential of Uzbekistan in the city of Milan, opening a trade house and launching an export line under “Uzbek Organic” brand.
In order to expand cultural and humanitarian exchanges an issue of organizing an exhibition of museum artifacts of Uzbekistan in Milan in 2026 is being worked out.
In turn, the Governor expressed his sincere gratitude to the President of our country for the comprehensive support provided to the projects and initiatives of Lombardy’s business community. He affirmed his readiness to actively promote full-scale business partnerships with the regions of Uzbekistan.
In conclusion of the meeting, the Head of our state wished Attilio Fontana success in the preparation and hosting of the upcoming 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan.
