Uzbekistan and Slovenia aim for expanding technological and industrial partnership

22.05.2025

As part of the program of the official visit to the Republic of Slovenia, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with Prime Minister of this country Robert Golob.

The focus of attention was on the issues of enhancing Uzbek-Slovenian multifaceted cooperation and practical interaction, primarily in trade, economic and investment spheres.

A high assessment was given to the fruitful results of the summit talks held today.

The importance of intensifying joint work in trade, investment and cooperation was emphasized. It was noted that the business forum planned during the current visit will become an effective platform for establishing new contacts and promoting joint projects.

Measures to increase the volume of trade turnover up to 500 million euros by increasing mutual supplies of demanded products have been considered. The “GSP+” system of preferences and the agreement signed today in the field of standardization will also stimulate the growth of trade.

An Industrial cooperation development plan will be prepared with a focus on technological modernization. In this context, the intentions of leading Slovenian companies to implement projects in Uzbekistan in the field of electrical engineering, instrumentation, pharmaceuticals, green energy and smart agriculture have been supported.

To accommodate such production facilities, the site of a special industrial park for European companies to be created in our country under the management of “Inpark” has been proposed.

In order to establish systematic cooperation in the field of labor migration, an agreement was reached to create a permanent expert group and prepare the necessary legal framework.

It was also agreed to jointly explore the possibility of establishing direct air service between the two countries and using the infrastructure of the Koper port to facilitate the access of Uzbek goods to the EU market.

A separate topic of the talks was the expansion of cultural and humanitarian exchange. Slovenia's experience in developing eco-tourism, including in mountainous and rural areas, is of particular interest.

The importance of developing joint educational programs was noted, including the organization of the Youth Innovation Forum in Tashkent. Also next year, cross cultural days and Uzbek Cinema Week will be held in Ljubljana.

With a view of practical promotion of the outlined areas of cooperation, an agreement has been reached to hold the first meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission in Ljubljana in July this year.

In addition, the two governments will adopt a comprehensive “road map” for the timely and qualitative implementation of the reached arrangements and signed agreements.

In conclusion, the President of our country invited Prime Minister of Slovenia Robert Golob to pay a visit to Uzbekistan at a convenient time.
