As part of the informal summit of the Organization of Turkic States in Budapest, a ceremony was held to present the International Alisher Navoi Prize "For Contribution to the Unity of the Turkic World."
This year, the award was presented to the renowned Turkish biochemist, Nobel laureate, and honorary doctor of the National University of Uzbekistan Aziz Sanjar.
In connection with the award, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev warmly congratulated Aziz Sanjar and emphasized that presenting this prestigious award to a representative of the scientific community will inspire scholars of the Turkic world, including the youth, to reach new heights.
The Alisher Navoi Prize of the Organization of Turkic States, named after the prominent Uzbek philosopher and statesman, was established on the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan in 2021. It is awarded every two years for outstanding contributions to the promotion of Turkic culture, the preservation of peace, the assurance of security and trust, and the expansion of cooperation among Turkic peoples in various fields.
For the first time the award was presented posthumously in 2022 to the Kyrgyz writer and public figure Chingiz Aytmatov.
